Lighthouse
Google lighthouse is a free development tool that helps you get an insight into what is working well on your website and what might need a bit of help.
It’s also really easy to use meaning that even if you aren’t the most technically savvy you will still be able to run it OK against your web pages to help you identify where you can improve your overall website performance.
Page Speed Insights
Page Speed Insights does what it says on the tin, it lets you see the speed of your website and if it is up to standard. It’s free, really easy to use, you simply enter your URL and wait to see what the results are and then you can take steps to correct any speed issues it shows up.

This SEO tool is exactly what you think it is, it lets you know if your website meets Google’s mobile-friendly guidelines.
Having a website that is mobile-friendly is a must if you want to rank well in the search engines, therefore you have to ensure your site works across all devices.
You can google mobile-friendly test and simply pop your domain in the search bar and hit enter and it will quickly let you know how your website stacks up.
It will be vital for you to ensure that your website is optimised for SEO and that will include making sure it’s mobile-friendly.
2.Ahrefs Free SEO Tools
While Ahrefs has an amazing paid all in one SEO tool, they also provide a range of SEO tools that are totally free, this includes:
- Backlink Checker – To let you look at the backlinks on your site.
- Free Keyword generator – to help generate keyword ideas.
- Keyword Rank Checker – to see where you are positioned in the SERPS.
- Free audit option – that you can set up once you verify your site.
- Broken Link Checker – To identify broken links on your site.
- Ahrefs SEO toolbar – this extension gives you a whole load of info in just one glance.
- Amazon, bing and youtube tools – to help you identify keywords for each platform.
Ahrefs free tools are some of the best free tools available, of course like all free tools they have their limitations especially when you compare it to the paid version but they certainly have more than enough to help you get a good handle on your SEO and how you can move it forward.
3.RankMath
This is one of my all-time favourite plugins for SEO if you are running your website on WordPress.
Rankmath is an SEO plugin for your website that can help you keep your onsite SEO on track.
It can give you an in-depth look at your website SEO, keyword suggestions and hints, you can link it to your Google analytics and track that info from within the plugin itself.
You can easily set it up with your social media accounts for easy social sharing.
There is a paid version of RankMath, however, for most business owners the free version of Rank Math is everything they would need.
This is my go-to plugin recommendation for anyone who has a WordPress website!
4.SEOquake
SEOquake is a browser add-on that lets you analyse web pages at a glance. It allows you to get a great snapshot of a website’s organic data, link information, domain authority. Link analysis and some social metrics.
SEOquake can be great for keyword research and competitor analysis to give you a good idea of what you are up against when it comes time to try to rank for your chosen keyword.
5.Answer The Public
Answer The Public is a great free resource when it comes to keyword research, it works differently from other keyword research tools in that it doesn’t get its data from google keyword planner. It gets its data from forums, blogs and social media
Giving you a great look into what people are actually asking and searching for online.
Answer the public can be especially useful for helping you come up with blog topics for your website.
It’s especially handy for finding relevant questions your clients may have which in turn will help you increase traffic to your website once you create a piece of content that answers those questions.
6.KWfinder
I love KWfinder for its ease of use, it’s not the most in-depth keyword tool but you can get a lot of information from it to help you form a keyword strategy for your own website.
Its link analysis is particularly strong and it gives you a really good idea of the type and quantity of links you will need for that page if you want it to compete with what’s already ranking.
7.Screaming Frog
If we are being really honest then technical SEO can be one of the biggest issues your website can have that will stop it from ranking. However, it can also be one of the hardest things to fix especially if you are not the most technical of people.
This is where Screaming Frog comes into play. While it does have a paid version, the free version provides you with a myriad of information.
This tool will crawl your website and help you identify the technical SEO issues that might be holding it back and let you see how you can improve your SEO by fixing the errors.
What’s more, it works the same way as the Google crawler so if it finds an issue you can be sure Google’s crawlers will have as well.
It will let you see duplicate content issues, issues with HTML, broken link and image optimization issues and of course if there is any site bloat that is causing the website problems. Essentially any SEO mistakes you may have made it will help you identify them
The information you glean from screaming frog can be invaluable to your SEO strategy.
8.MOZbar
Mozbar is the number SEO toolbar and is loved by most people in the SEO industry for its ease of use and wealth of information it provides.
Mozbar is a chrome extension that once you have installed it can give you loads of invaluable information on any webpage that you view.
You can see website links, Page authority, domain authority and keyword information.
When it comes to your SEO campaign Mozbar can be an amazing tool to have in your SEO toolbox.
9.Bing Webmaster Tools
While Google’s own webmaster tools are rightly recognised as the industry leader, that doesn’t mean you should ignore Bing’s own webmaster tools
These tools can offer you a wealth of information on your website including keyword and ranking reports and while Google is the main search engine that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother with Bing search.
Its algorithms work differently from Googles and they give you the chance to drive traffic to your site that you might not get from Google
10.HARO
Technically not an SEO website but “Help A Reporter Out” is a great way for website owners to identify opportunities to gain backlinks for their website pages and blog post.
HARO is a website where journalists can get quotes and help for their articles and reports and where website owners can sign up to provide those answers
You need to head over to the website and sign up as a source and chose the topics that are your area of expertise and then you will be emailed a couple of times a day with relevant opportunities that you will then pitch for and once your quote is chosen a link will be generated pointing back to your website
Don’t forget to let me know in the comments below which ones are your favourites and which ones brought you the best result. If you could help me get this blog posts reach out there by giving it a share I would be forever grateful!
