However I totally get it that when you’re first starting with your business, your budget can feel a little non existent and most things seem outwith your reach, not only that but there are so many different SEO tools out there it can be hard knowing which ones are best for you to use. 

Which tools should you use to audit your site, or to find the best SEO keywords. How do you track your results so you know what’s working or what isn’t etc

The great news is It doesn’t have to be that way.

The truth is you can get started with your SEO for practically nothing. I’ve compiled a list of tools and resources that are not only amazing for SEO but either free, low cost or offer brilliant free trials you can sign up for to get you started!

They can help you create a SEO strategy, or you can use their keyword explorer tools to help chose the best keywords and most will even create SEO reports for you! 

Most of these tools I have either used in the past or currently use and I’m going to be adding how to use tutorials for most of them to the site as well!

GOOGLES TOOLS

Google has some fantastic SEO tools, and best of all they are completely free.

Google Analytics shows you everything you need to know about your sites data. It shows you who uses your site, what actions they take when they are there. What’s your most popular content etc.

You can track how much of your traffic comes from different sources.

The main reason I’d suggest you use Google Analytics is so you can track your progress and consistently strive to improve on it.

The speed of your site is a huge ranking factor. The faster your page loads the more likely your site is to rank higher.

Google PageSpeed Tools lets you see the speed of your site on Desktop and Mobile platforms.

It will also suggest improvements based on the Google Webmaster Guidelines.

The best tool in Google’s Keyword tool box is its keyword planner and it is one the most popular Google Keyword tools. It’s still one of the most accurate free SEO tools available.

You can access search volumes and get an idea on the difficulty in ranking.

This one is fairly self explanatory, it will tell you whether or not your website passes the Mobile friendly test and if not, where you need to make adjustments..
This is one of my favourite tools ever!

It used to be known as webmaster tools before it had a bit of a rebrand and its a tool every business should make use of regardless of SEO.

But for your SEO marketing plan its a VITAL tool.

SEO SOFTWARE / TOOLS

SEO tools can be the key to your SEO success. They will help you unlock all the data and research you need as well as help you track your result and check out your competitors!

MOZ is an SEO software allows you to carry out keyword research, link building, website audits, and page optimization insights all in one place. Month to month its one of the pricier services but it does offer a free trial you could utilise.

Ahrefs is a powerhouse in Link Building Software.

They have the most thorough and complete backlinking database for you to track, monitor and launch campaigns based on accurate data

Screaming Frog – Screaming frog is a website crawler that helps you identify and audit any SEO problems you site may have.

It has a free version that lets you crawl up 500 URLs for free or a low cost paid version if you need more than that.

Long Tail Pro is another of the tools we use all the time. Its brilliant for finding profitable keywords to capitalise on.

WORDPRESS PLUGINS
This section if for those of you who use wordpress for your website platform. These wordpress Plug In’s will help you ensure your website has all the tools it needs to onsite SEO success!
Yoast SEO is our go-to WordPress SEO plug in.
The reason being It gives you great feedback based on real ranking factors, of how to improve your content.
Is a plug in that links up with your Google Analytics. It makes it extremely easy for you to connect and view your Google Analytics reports from inside your WordPress dashboard.
It also has tracking settings & workflows make MonsterInsights the most beginner-friendly Google Analytics plugin in the market.
W3 Total Cache improves the user experience of your site by improving your server performance, caching every aspect of your site, reducing the download times etc.
This is an alternative to w3 total cache they perform very similar functions. It’s just about choosing your preference.

Rank Math is an SEO plug in for wordpress websites. Rank math is actually now my favourite WordPress SEO plug in, it has all the benefits and features of yoast and a whole lot more. It’s fast, easy to use and more intuitive than other SEO plug ins.

With all of these images on your site, you’ll find that your site speed slows down a little. Which is why this plug in is perfect for your site.

WP Smush strips your images of needless data and coding reducing the time it takes for them to load. Meaning page load speed is one less thing to worry about.

KEYWORD TOOLS
As well as the keyword tools within the SEO suits mentioned above there are other keyword tools you can utilise to help you choose the best search phrases with the best traffic options for your business!
Ubersuggest is a great tool for expanding your keywords. For example you will give it one keyword and it will suggest other related keywords.
Keyword.io is a great keyword suggestion tool. You can search keywords for different search engines – including Google, Bing, Wikipedia and Youtube to find the best fit for you.
Is a great way to find out what questions and queries your consumers have by getting a free report of what they’re searching for in Google

Seed Keywords is a different type of keyword tool, it lets you create a search scenario  and then send the link it creates to your friends and see what search phrases they would use based on that scenario.

It gives you an insight as to how people might actually search and is a good SEO tool to use alongside another more traditional tool

Can I rank – Is an SEO keyword tool that gives you both the stats and the feasibility. To know if the keyword matches your desired outcomes.

Can I rank has a free level and a paid level. The free level is a great way to get started and is a fab SEO tool to have in your toolbox

BROWSER ADDONS
I can’t live without my browser addons! They are so handy and brilliant for helping you measure and track your SEO campaign as you go along
SEOquake is a free plugin for browsers that provides you with key SEO metrics for a specific page, along with other useful tools such as SEO Audit
WooRank will help you to address SEO issues on your site. identify opportunities with instant reviews and check your SEO.
MOZ Bar is a free toolbar Extension that makes it easy to get advanced metrics and do all your SEO on the go

Hosting companies for HTTPS:
These are the hosting companies we recommend for being not only affordable but reliable and great for HTTPS.
Our personal favourite is Site Ground as its super reliable and HTTPS is free with it right now
Bluehost are one of the most popular companies for those who are just starting out, they offer a range of services with a variety of price points to suit most budgets.
Is very similar to bluehost in that they have a variety of services available with great entry level price points.

There you have it , my SEO toolbox. These are the tools and resources I use most in our business, many of the services on this list I use on a daily basis and would be lost without, especially the SEO tools.
